Centre to establish sports training for the differently abled people
The Union Minister Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot announced that the government is to establish sports training centres at five locations in the country. The centres will be exclusively used for the differently-abled people. Sports training centres: Gehlot unveiled the Standing Wheelchair. It is indigenously developed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) for commercial production at a function held in Chennai. It will help the differently-abled people not only to move from one place to another like the normal wheelchair. It will enable them to stand on their own without seeking other’s help. The patented design and manufacturing technique has been transferred to a private firm that was earlier incubated in the Madras IIT Research Park itself.

Nirmal “Nims” Purja, a Nepalese climber, has summited the world’s 14 highest peaks in a period of six months and six days, which is 189 days. He smashed the previous record by more than seven years. He climbed the Mount Shishapangma at 26,335 feet in Tibet. He summited the world’s 14 tallest mountains in record time. He reached the top of Mount Shishapangma in China on 29 October 2019. Previous records: The two previous records for climbing the world’s tallest 14 peaks were held by Polish climber Jerzy Kukuczka who summitted at 7 years, 11 months and 14 days, and South Korean climber Kim Chang-ho who summited more than a month faster than Kukuczka. Himalayan summit: The Himalayan summit is nearly 8,027 meters above sea level. It is the smallest of the 14 mountains on Earth that soar above 8,000 meters. It is considered as a realm mountaineers refer to as the death zone. Nirmal Purja: Purja is a Nepalese mountaineer. He served in the British military before attempting the lofty feat. In 2003, he joined the Brigade of Gurkhas, and in 2009, he joined the Special Boat Service. In 2018, he quit the military as Lance Corporal in order to focus on his mountaineering career.

Singh Kuntal sets record in the Ironman Malaysia event
Indian Army’s officer Lt. Col. Swaroop Singh Kuntal became the fastest Indian to complete Ironman Malaysia in a record timing of 12 hours and 14 minutes. Athletes from across the world participated in the event. Ironman event consists of sea swimming followed by cycling and running. The triathlon is required to be done in a cut- off time of 17 hours. During cycling, the maximum temperature reached 380C, and while running, it reached 350C. Lt. Col. Swaroop Singh Kuntal: Kuntal is posted in Jhansi. He is a paratrooper and an IITian. He has proved his abilities in many marathons and ultramarathons. He has covered 118.7 km and won a 12-hour stadium run at Chandigarh. Kuntal represented Uttar Pradesh in the 23rd National Road Cycling Championship in 2018. In September 2018, he won Ironman at Jaipur International Triathlon. He underwent severe training to participate in Ironman Malaysia, and his preparation included extensive running, cycling, swimming, and strength training. Ironman Malaysia: The Ironman Malaysia was organized on 26 October at Langkawi Island in Malaysia. It is known as the world’s hardest one-day endurance race because it has an elevation of around 3000m in the 180 km cycling course. The triathlon is organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). It consists of a 3.86 km swim, a 180.25 km bicycle ride, and a marathon 42.20 km run in the given order. The race should be completed 16 or 17 hours.
